How it works
How to add Tycoon to your Shopify store, from install to the first sale
Tycoon is an AI sales associate for Shopify stores. It learns your store by itself, waits for you to approve what it found, then answers shoppers with live prices and stock, checking every reply before it is sent.
How do you install Tycoon on a Shopify store?
Installing Tycoon takes three clicks from you. You install the app and approve its permissions on Shopify's own screen, with no separate account to create. You review and approve the facts it learned, then go live. Finally, you press Save in the theme editor so the chat appears on your storefront.
Between the first and second click, Tycoon does the reading. That step targets about 9 minutes, a target rather than a promise.
- Install. Approve the permissions on Shopify's screen. There is no separate Tycoon account to create.
- Approve and go live. Read the facts Tycoon found (shipping thresholds, return windows, delivery times, codes) and approve the ones that are right.
- Save in the theme editor. The chat is added through a theme app extension, so nobody edits your theme code.
What does Tycoon learn about my store before it goes live?
On install, Tycoon reads your store by itself: the catalog (products, variants, images, collections), your policies as you state them, shipping (delivery profiles, zones, free-shipping thresholds), your brand voice, size charts or guides, and your own FAQ. You do not upload a file or type anything.
Brand voice means how your pages already talk: formal or casual, how you address customers, how long you write.
Learning continues nightly after install (full nightly learning with proposals is on the Tycoon plan); the learning page explains how.
Why do I have to approve facts before Tycoon talks to shoppers?
Tycoon may only state shop facts you approved. Shipping thresholds, return windows, delivery times and discount codes are exactly the details a shopper acts on, so a wrong one costs you money or trust. Approval puts you, the owner, between what the AI read and what shoppers hear.
For example, if your banner and an old FAQ entry list different free-shipping thresholds, approval is where you confirm the current one.
How does the chat appear on my storefront?
Tycoon appears through a theme app extension, the Shopify mechanism that adds app blocks without editing theme code. It matches your theme's colors and fonts. The loader on your storefront is designed to stay around 10 KB, and the full chat loads only when a shopper opens it.
Every script on a product page competes for load time. Our guide on chat widgets and Shopify store speed explains the trade-offs.
What happens when a shopper asks a question?
Each reply follows the same path. Tycoon reads the question, reads price, compare-at price and stock live from your store, writes a full draft, checks every figure in it against live data and your approved facts, and only then sends it. Nothing streams to the shopper while it is being written.
The model is never the source of a price, stock state, delivery date, discount code or factual claim. That is how Tycoon is built to avoid made-up figures.
- Question. A shopper writes, for example, "Do you have this in a medium, and when would it arrive?"
- Clarify if needed. If the need is unclear, Tycoon asks one short question built from your catalog (size, skin type, occasion). It skips this when the shopper already said.
- Live read. Price and stock come from your store for this answer, never from storage.
- Draft. Tycoon writes the whole reply, suggesting one to three products, each with a reason.
- Guards. A figure that does not match live data or approved facts blocks the draft, which is rewritten.
- Send. Product cards show real images, the live price and the right variant selected.
How does Tycoon decide when to make an offer?
Tycoon makes at most one offer per reply: a matching add-on, a bundle, or the nudge that unlocks free shipping. It frames the saving first, then the bonus. It makes no offer when the shopper sounds upset, skeptical or hesitant, and it never volunteers returns or cancellation.
Products go into your real cart only when the shopper taps Add to cart. More on the upsell and cross-sell page.
When does a person from my team take over?
Tycoon says plainly that it is an AI, in a window labelled "AI assistant", and always offers a person from your team. When a shopper asks for a human, or a question needs one, it hands the conversation off. Merchants cannot switch off the AI disclosure or the human option.
Around the clock it answers everyday questions such as shipping times, sizing, stock and order status (order status on Starter and up). See support automation.
Who does what, and when?
You do three things: install, approve facts and press Save. Tycoon does the reading, the live checks and the nightly tuning. Shopify handles permissions and billing. The table below lays out each step, who is responsible for it and when it happens, from install day to the weekly review.
| What happens | Who does it | When |
|---|---|---|
| Install and approve permissions | You, on Shopify's screen | Day one, first click |
| Read catalog, policies, shipping, voice, size guides, FAQ | Tycoon | Right after install (target about 9 minutes) |
| Review and approve shop facts | You | Before going live |
| Add the chat to the storefront | You, in the theme editor | Before going live |
| Read live price and stock, check every figure | Tycoon | Every reply, before sending |
| Take over a conversation | Your team | Whenever a person is needed |
| Tune offers, first questions and recommendations | Tycoon | Nightly (full learning with proposals on the Tycoon plan) |
| Approve or undo proposed changes | You | Weekly "What I learned" feed |
How do I know whether Tycoon is making a difference?
Tycoon is measured with a holdout: a small, randomly chosen share of visitors does not see it, and the dashboard compares their revenue with everyone else's. Growth includes one 30-day lift test. The Tycoon plan measures continuously. A control group shows real effect better than counting chats that ended in a sale.
Our guide to measuring AI chatbot revenue with a holdout test explains the method.
What is the Store Manager?
Store Manager turns what shoppers ask into actions for you: what to restock, what is stuck, what customers keep asking, knowledge gaps, and demand for sold-out items. Growth includes core reports, daily stock alerts and a weekly email with three actions. The Tycoon plan adds the full Store Manager with 41 reports and 6 alerts.
The full version adds restock quantities and dates, seasonality, dead-stock value and returns by variant. See pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to edit my theme code to add Tycoon?
No. Tycoon is added through a theme app extension. You press Save in the theme editor and the chat appears, matched to your theme's colors and fonts.
How long does setup take?
Three clicks from you. The learning step in between targets about 9 minutes; that is a target, not a promise.
Can Tycoon make up a price or a discount code?
It is built not to. Prices and stock are read live, codes come only from facts you approved, and a draft with a mismatched figure is blocked.
Is Tycoon on the Shopify App Store?
Tycoon is in early access. You can request a free personal demo on your own store through the demo page. Tycoon is independent and not affiliated with Shopify.
