Shopify chatbot comparison: how to compare AI chat apps fairly
Most AI chat apps for Shopify sound alike on their home pages. The differences show up in a few specific questions: where the answers come from, what happens before a reply is sent, how offers are limited and how results are measured. These comparisons use those questions, with a source for every competitor fact.
How should you compare AI chat apps for Shopify?
Compare them on what they do in a real conversation, not on their marketing. Ask where each answer comes from, whether prices and stock are read live, what is checked before a reply is sent, how offers are limited, when a person takes over, and how the vendor proposes to measure revenue.
We use the same twelve rows on every comparison page so you can read them side by side. Where a competitor's public pages do not address a row, we write "Not stated publicly" rather than guess, and we date every check. Vendors change quickly, so confirm anything important with them before you buy.
| Criterion | What to ask |
|---|---|
| Core purpose | Is it a helpdesk, a live chat tool, or a storefront sales associate? |
| AI recommendations | Does it ask about the shopper's need before suggesting products? |
| Live price and stock per answer | Is every price and stock state read live, or from a stored copy? |
| Pre-send fact checks | Is each reply checked before it reaches the shopper? |
| Add to cart from chat | Can the shopper add the right variant to the store's real cart? |
| Upsell rules | How many offers per reply, and when does it hold back? |
| Order status | Can it answer "where is my order", and for whom? |
| Human hand-off | When and how does a person from your team take over? |
| AI disclosure | Does the shopper know they are talking to an AI? |
| Languages | Which languages, and does it handle right-to-left scripts? |
| Pricing model and entry price | Priced by tickets, visitors, resolutions or conversations? |
| Measurement | How does it separate its own effect from normal sales? |
Why do live prices and pre-send checks matter so much?
Because a wrong price, stock state or discount code in a chat is a promise your store then has to handle. An assistant that reads figures live and checks a draft before sending it is designed to catch a whole class of mistakes; one that answers from a stored copy can drift as your catalog changes.
Our article on AI chatbot hallucinations about prices and stock explains the failure modes, and the glossary defines grounding and guardrails.
How should you measure whether a chat app adds revenue?
Use a holdout: keep a small, random share of visitors from seeing the assistant and compare their revenue with everyone else's. Assisted-order counts and resolution rates show activity, but they cannot tell you which of those sales would have happened anyway. A holdout separates the assistant's effect from normal sales.
Our guide to measuring AI chatbot revenue with a holdout test walks through the setup, and incremental lift is defined in the glossary.

Four side-by-sides are available, each built on the twelve criteria above with sources dated October 20, 2026. Each page also says plainly when the other product is the better fit, because the right choice depends on whether you need a helpdesk, free native chat, proactive engagement or a checked storefront associate.

How do we keep these comparisons fair?
Every competitor fact comes from that company's own public pages: pricing pages, product pages, help documentation and Shopify App Store listings, each linked and dated. We do not use review scores, rankings or third-party claims, and we describe each product's strengths and the stores it suits.
Tycoon facts come only from our approved product facts, and Tycoon is in early access, so it has no public track record yet. Read our editorial policy for how we write and correct pages. If a competitor detail is out of date, tell us through the demo form and we will check and update it.
