Feature: upsell and cross-sell
AI upsell and cross-sell for Shopify, one honest offer at a time
Tycoon handles AI upsell on your Shopify store with one rule: at most one offer per reply. That offer is a matching add-on, a bundle, or the nudge that unlocks free shipping. It leads with the saving, then the bonus, and makes no offer when the shopper is upset, skeptical or hesitant.
What is the difference between upselling and cross-selling on Shopify?
An upsell suggests a higher-value version of what the shopper is already considering, such as a larger size or an upgraded model. A cross-sell suggests something that goes with it, such as a belt with trousers. A bundle groups items together. All three aim at a larger, better-matched order.
In a chat, timing and tone matter more than on a product page. An offer that fits the conversation reads as help. An offer pushed at the wrong moment reads as pressure. Our guide to upselling and cross-selling with AI on Shopify goes into the trade-offs.
What kinds of offers does Tycoon make?
Tycoon chooses from three kinds of offers: a matching add-on that goes with the product, a bundle, or the nudge that unlocks your free-shipping threshold. Which ones are available depends on your plan. It makes at most one offer per reply, so the shopper is never handed a list of extras.
| Offer | Available from |
|---|---|
| Matching add-on (a product that goes with it) | Every plan |
| Free-shipping threshold nudge | Starter |
| Bundle suggestions and upgrade suggestions | Growth |
| Cross-sell for the whole cart | Growth |
| Cart recovery inside the chat | Growth |
| Advanced offer rules | Growth |
When does Tycoon decide not to make an offer?
Tycoon makes no offer when the shopper sounds upset, skeptical or hesitant. If someone is asking about a late order, doubting a product or unsure whether to buy at all, it answers the question and stops there. It also never volunteers returns or cancellation, and never uses false urgency or fake scarcity.
This is a deliberate trade. A chat that pushes extras at a frustrated shopper can cost more trust than the add-on is worth. Holding back on those turns keeps the offer for moments when the shopper is already leaning toward buying.
What does "saving first, then the bonus" mean?
It means the offer leads with what the shopper saves, then names what they get. Instead of "add this belt," the reply says how much is saved or that shipping becomes free, then mentions the item. The shopper sees the benefit to them before the extra product, which keeps the offer honest and easy to judge.
Where do the prices and discounts in an offer come from?
From your store and your approved facts, never from the model. Price, compare-at price and stock are read live for every answer. Free-shipping thresholds and discount codes come only from the facts you reviewed and approved. Every draft is checked before sending, and a draft with a figure that does not match is blocked and rewritten.
This matters most in offers, because an offer is exactly where a wrong number hurts: a promised discount that does not exist, or a threshold that changed last week. See AI chatbot hallucinations: prices and stock for why truth checks sit before sending.
How do you know whether the offers add revenue?
Tycoon is measured with a holdout test: a small, randomly chosen share of visitors does not see Tycoon, and the dashboard compares their revenue with everyone else's. The Growth plan includes one 30-day lift test; the Tycoon plan measures continuously. The result is what your data shows, with no promised number.
On the Tycoon plan, nightly learning also looks at which offers were accepted in your store and tunes which offer to show. Learning stays within your store. Read more in measuring AI chatbot revenue with a holdout test.
Frequently asked questions
Can Tycoon make more than one offer in a reply?
No. It makes at most one offer per reply, and none when the shopper is upset, skeptical or hesitant.
Will it add products to the cart without asking?
No. Add to cart only happens when the shopper taps the button. It then uses your store's real cart, and the theme's cart count updates.
Can it invent a discount to close a sale?
No. Discount codes come only from the facts you approved, and every draft is checked before it is sent. The model is never the source of a code or a price.
Does the Free plan include upsells?
The Free plan can suggest a product that goes with the one being viewed. The free-shipping nudge starts on Starter, and bundles, upgrades and whole-cart cross-sell start on Growth. See pricing.
Does it work alongside my existing upsell app?
Tycoon works inside its own chat window and reads your store's live data, so it does not need to replace on-page widgets. Check your existing app's documentation for how it behaves next to other apps.
